Brennick Consulting is owned and operated by Charles Brennick. He is the founder of InterConnection, one of the largest non-profit computer reuse organizations in the U.S. focused on digital equity.
Charles’ first experience with information and communication technology occurred in 1997 when he was an ecotourism planner and developer for small, remote NGOs and community based projects in Costa Rica. For nearly two years he helped rural ecotour operators develop websites and taught them how to use their websites to market their tours and gain clients. A simple website drew more tourists to these ecotours and ecolodges, resulting in more revenue for the rural families and communities that ran them. This first-hand experience made him realize that a low-cost tech solution has the ability to improve lives and the environment.
In 1999 Charles founded InterConnection. Its mission is to provide technology to underserved communities around the world. InterConnection is a true social enterprise nonprofit that receives no grant or foundation funding.
Highlights of Charles’ experience:
- Management and development experience related to the nonprofit and ICT for international development field.
- Experience in creating budgets, project plans, finance, staff management and reviews.
- Presentations to board of directors.
- Established a partnership with TechSoup, the largest provider of discounted hardware and software to nonprofits in the U.S., to distribute InterConnection computers.
- Established a computer hardware repair training program that provided over 1,000 low-income people with tech skills.
- Worked with Microsoft Philanthropies (formerly Community Affairs) to create a program that distributes their surplus computers to community technology learning centers in the U.S. and in foreign countries including Romania, Tanzania, Kenya, and Chile.
- Speaker at conferences and webinars including the International Computer Refurbisher Summit, Escrap, Global Washington, Rotary, TechSoup, Telecentre.org and more.
- Created partnerships with many corporations to get them to donate surplus computer assets including Microsoft, Vulcan, Paccar, Nintendo, Path, Gates Foundation, Alaska Airlines, Century Link and many more.
- Organized and staffed trade show tables at InterAction, Nten, Global Washington, Rotary, Microsoft and more.
- Skills in web design and graphics software.
- Worked with the government of Chile to ship 4000 computers to schools in that country.
- Created computer reuse programs and distribution points in Uganda, El Salvador, Colombia and Paraguay.
- Created and implemented policy and procedures that allowed InterConnection to be the first nonprofit in the nation to gain the industry leading R2 (Responsible Recycling) electronics recycling certification and ISO14001 and OHSAS1800 certifications.
- Established a production process based on 5S principals that generates over 1,000 refurbished computers per month. Computers produced from this process are recognized as some of the highest-quality refurbished computers in the industry.
- Worked with the development organizations Red Cross and Nethope to refurbish and ship computers to aid workers in Japan and Pakistan.
Charles was a Senior Planner for Snohomish County Parks and Recreation and was responsible for land use planning, master plans, public engagement, grant writing, project management, GIS and statistics analysis.
Charles was a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay and taught environmental education in rural schools. He met his wife, Maria Eugenia, in Paraguay.
Charles holds a Master’s Degree in Community and Regional Planning with an emphasis on Community Development from the University of Oregon. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies: Policy and Assessment, from Western Washington University.
Charles is fluent in Spanish, conversant in Guaraní, the indigenous language of Paraguay, and can understand some Portuguese.
